AMA president Ehrenfeld to address looming physician shortage, Oct. 25
Dr. Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, president of the American Medical Association (AMA, will address how a physician shortage in the United States could affect patients and health care and how to fix it at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m.
Ehrenfeld will highlight the key factors driving an exodus from medicine, including physician burnout, and update reporters on the AMA's Recovery Plan for America's Physicians, launched in 2022. A study published in 2020 by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) projected the U.S. will face a shortage of between 54,100 and 139,000 physicians by 2033.
Ehrenfeld’s speech will be followed by a moderated question-and-answer session with National Press Club President Eileen O'Reilly.
