Actor Matt Dillon plans to address Myanmar refugee crisis at Press Club, June 11

Oscar-nominated actor and screenwriter Matt Dillon plans to discuss his recent visit to western Myanmar and reports of a humanitarian crisis among the Muslim ethnic minority, known as the Rohingya refugees, at an NPC Speakers Newsmakers event, Thursday, June 11 at 9 a.m. at the National Press Club.

The event will be held in the NPC's Fourth Estate. Remarks will begin promptly at 9 a.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. Press Club members and credentialed journalists may attend.

One of the first celebrities to spotlight the plight of the Rohingyas, Dillon toured the region at the request of Rohingya activist Thun Khin during an Asian promotional tour for his new TV series “Wayward Pines.”

Dillon plans to be joined by Michael Gabaudan, president of Refugees International. Gabaudan previously served as the U.N. High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) Regional Representation for the U.S. and the Caribbean.

Dillon was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in “Crash”. He has also appeared in such films as “The Outsiders,” “Rumble Fish,” “Something About Mary,” “To Die For,” and “Little Darlings.”
