Young Members To Host Author, TV Producer, Newsday Reporter Tom Maier Sept. 19 The Club’s Young Members Committee will host longtime Newsday reporter Tom Maier on Sept. 19 for an evening discussion of multimedia careers in newspapers, books, television production and related fields. Maier — a best-selling author whose latest book, All That Glitters, is being launched in September by Skyhorse Publishing — will speak at 5:30 p.m. to Young Members in the 14th Floor Cosgrove Room. He plans to describe how he charted his career path, to provide advice and to answer any other questions, including those regarding media trends that he’s observed during a three-decade career at Newsday. His work has included also TV production and teaching journalism in Hofstra University courses with the late Newsday investigative editor Bob Greene, Maier’s “mentor” and a two-time Pulitzer-winner who co-founded the national Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) team that volunteered their time to find the murderers of reporter Don Bolles, killed in a mob hit. Young Members are invited after the 5:30 p.m. discussion to join the speaker at an optional dinner lecture beginning at 6:30 p.m. during the Club’s special “Lobster Night” ($30 for Club Members, $35 for non-Member guests). At 7 p.m., Maier will lecture about his new book All That Glitters, whose subtitle is Anna Wintour, Tina Brown, and the Rivalry Inside America’s Richest Media Empire.
