It should come as no surprise to journalists that online video news continues to grow — and dominate — the media landscape. Social media and video-first networks have, on average, become more popular than traditional broadcast platforms and websites as the global public’s main source of news, according to the Reuters Institute's 2026 Digital News Report.

This means that even the staunchest advocates for traditional means of journalism must face the facts: audiences prefer to watch the news on their phones and are “often drawing on a wider range of sources and voices,” per the report.

These trends present an opportunity for journalists to lean into social-first video and adapt their skills for a modern audience.

With this in mind, we'll start this half-day workshop with instruction from Rahim. Next, we'll break out to put what we've learned into practice by filming some vertical video. Finally, we'll come back together to workshop and edit our short videos.

Be prepared to network with likeminded creators and journalists as well!

Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.
