Join the Broadcast Committee for a lunchtime event, "Conversation with Chuck Todd of "Meet The Press". He'll discuss the transformation of the pioneering NBC program in the face of the rapid shift in technology including how information is discovered and consumed. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 15 in the McClendon Room on the 14th floor. Lunch will begin at 11:45am and program will start at 12pm. Ticket prices will be $18 and includes lunch buffet, iced tea, coffee service and tax/gratuity.
Chuck Todd became the 12th moderator of NBC’s Meet the Press on September 7, 2014. Meet the Press debuted on television on November 6, 1947 and was moderated by Martha Rountree, who had first created it for Mutual radio in 1945. The idea was to have public figures respond to journalists’ questions without prior preparation. (Note for inquiring minds: Lawrence E. Spivak joined Martha Rountree as co-producer after the program’s tv premiere.)
Chuck Todd is also the Political Director for NBC News and the on-air political analyst for NBC Nightly News. Previously, he was Chief White House correspondent for the network and host of MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown.
Born in Miami April 8, 1972, he attended George Washington University from 1990 to 1994, majoring in political science and minoring in music. He worked on various political campaigns before joining National Journal’s The Hotline in 1992; he was editor-in-chief for six years.
Tim Russert recruited Todd to NBC in March 2007, and he became a familiar face on television political discussion shows. An unabashed political wonk, Todd has been credited with helping boost cable news coverage of U.S. politics. Last year he not only became moderator of Meet the Press, but published his first book--The Stranger: Barack Obama in the White House.
The Broadcast Committee’s Prime Time series explores how broadcast media is presenting itself to 21st century audiences, both in terms of traditional programming and in the creation of new media formats. Chuck Todd is here to launch this series because he is currently transforming a pioneering television program, Meet the Press, into a relevant resource for today’s audiences.
