U.S. Postmaster General to Announce Plans for Fixing the USPS’s Finances at a National Press Club Luncheon on Nov. 21
U.S. Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe will reveal more details about his plans for fixing the U.S. Postal Services’ financial troubles during a National Press Club Speakers Luncheon on Monday, Nov. 21.
Donahoe, who was named to head the USPS a little more than a year, will explain his reasons for cutting thousands of jobs, closing thousands of local Post Offices and possibly ending Saturday delivery. He will also address concerns about postal workers’ health and retirement benefits. The Postal Service is expected to record a $10-billion dollar loss for 2011.
Donahoe, who is the nation’s 73rd Postmaster General, is a 35-year postal veteran. He reports to the Postal Service Board of Governors. Previously, he served as the deputy postmaster general and chief operating officer. In his dual roles, he had responsibility for the day-to-day activities of 574,000 employees working in more than 32,000 locations.
The Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m., with the speech starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 2 p.m. Cost of tickets is $18 for Press Club members, $29, for guests of members, and $36 for general admission.
