Rahm EmanuelChicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will discuss "Moving Forward in Chicago" including new initiatives for education and other programs at a National Press Club Headliners Luncheon on Tuesday, June 20th at 12:30 p.m.

Mayor Emanuel says he wants to guarantee the future success of students by requiring public high-school seniors to provide a college or trade school acceptance letter, proof of military enlistment or a job offer in order to graduate.

Emanuel is serving his second term as the mayor of the nation’s third-largest city with an estimated population of more than 2.7 million. Before assuming this role in 2011, he was President Barack Obama’s chief of staff and served three terms in the U.S. Congress.

Emanuel is guiding a school system with graduation rates that, according to the Chicago Public School system, are growing from 66 percent in 2014 to about 73 percent in 2016 – the largest increase in graduate rates in the nation, but still below the national average of 80 percent. A stated purpose of the Mayor’s new proposal is to get students thinking about their life after high-school.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $25 for Press Club members (members may purchase two tickets at this rate) and $39 for all other non-member tickets.

For questions, please email [email protected] or call (202) 662–7501. Tickets must be paid for at the time of purchase.

NPC Members who wish to attend the pre-luncheon reception must RSVP separately to [email protected] 48 hours before the event. Space may be limited. You must have a paid reservation to the Luncheon to attend the VIP reception.

To submit a question in advance, put EMANUEL in the subject line and email to [email protected] before 10 a.m. on the day of the luncheon.
