NPC Headliners Screening: "Anna"

Join Bob Woodward, U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and former CIA Director John Brennan at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 for a screening of the biographical film “Anna” with opening remarks from Sean Penn and followed by a discussion on the dangers journalists face in the 21st century. 

The film depicts Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s brave crusade as she risks her life to fight for an independent voice in Putin's Russia. Politkovskaya survived poisoning, detention and beatings, but was ultimately silenced, becoming one of more than 1,800 journalists killed so far this century. Politkovskaya’s story serves as a reminder of the dangers that journalists face and the importance of protecting journalists' right to report the truth without fear of death or reprisal.

The film stars Ciarán Hinds, Jason Isaacs, Ian Hart, and Maxine Peake, and is directed by James Strong. It was produced by Mark Maxey and Miriam Segal. Sean Penn is Executive Producer.

Doors to the National Press Club Ballroom open at 6 p.m. to allow attendees time to order a drink from the bar and mingle.
