Watch the trailer here.

Doors to the Ballroom will open at 6 p.m. for a cash bar cocktail hour. The documentary screening will start at 7 p.m. and be followed by a conversation with Chernov and Aronson-Rath moderated by AP U.S. Planning Manager and 2021 National Press Club President Lisa Matthews.

They were the only international journalists left in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol and Russian troops were hunting them down.

The Associated Press and Frontline PBS take viewers inside the dark and twisted siege of Ukraine in 20 Days in Mariupol led by AP video journalist Mstyslav Chernov. On November 3, the National Press Club will screen 20 Days in Mariupol for club members, the media and the general public at 6 p.m. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Chernov and PBS Frontline producer Raney Aronson-Rath.

The film draws on Chernov’s daily news dispatches and personal footage of his own country at war. It offers a vivid, harrowing account of civilians caught in the siege, as well as a window into what it’s like to report from a conflict zone, and the impact of such journalism around the globe. Chernov’s team captured what has become the defining images of war: dying children, mass grave, the bombing of a maternity hospital and more.

Chernov’s courageous reporting in Mariupol earned him the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.

To submit a question in advance for the speakers, put MARIUPOL in the subject line and email it to [email protected]. The deadline for submitting questions in advance is 2 p.m. on the day of the screening.
