U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, will release the results of a new federal report on the underrepresentation of Latinos in the media industry, including the film, television, news and publishing sectors, at a Headliners Newsmaker event on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m.

Last year, the 2021 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report found that Hispanics make up 18% of the population but held just 12% of the jobs in the media industry.

Castro, born in San Antonio, is a second-generation Mexican American. After serving five terms as a state legislator in Texas, Castro was elected in 2012 to the U.S. House of Representatives from the 20th Congressional District, which includes large portions of San Antonio. His twin brother, Julián, was mayor of San Antonio and secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

This Headliners event is open to credentialed media and club members. To submit a question for the speaker, please email [email protected] and put CASTRO in the subject line.
