Best-selling author and former First Lady of Iceland Eliza Reid will discuss her memoir, "The First Lady Next Door: A Memoir of Iceland, Identity, and Unexpected Adventure," at a Headliners Book Event on Thursday, April 30 at 6 p.m.
This memoir takes readers behind the scenes as Reid is catapulted from a low-key life as a working mother of four to Iceland's First Lady after her history professor husband unexpectedly wins the presidency of Iceland. Suddenly, with the nation watching her every move, the Canadian-born Reid, still struggling to grasp Icelandic, became an untrained, untested and imperfect diplomat without an instruction manual.
Reid, an acclaimed writer and co-founder of the Iceland Writers Retreat, served as the First Lady of Iceland from 2016 to 2024. As first lady, she advocated for gender equality, entrepreneurship and innovation, and tourism and sustainability, and promoted Iceland's rich literary heritage.
Ticket prices are $5 for National Press Club members and $10 for general admission.
To submit a question in advance for Reid, put FIRSTLADY in the subject line and email to [email protected]. The deadline for submitting questions in advance is 4 p.m. on the day of the event.
