NPC Book Event

Washington Post reporter Robert Samuels will discuss his book, “His Name is George Floyd” at a National Press Club in-person Headliners Book Event on Thursday, June 23 at 6 p.m..

The murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25, 2020 set off a series of protests in the United States and around the world, awakening millions to widespread abuses in the nation’s police forces. Samuels and co-author Toluse Olorunnipa draw on more than 400 interviews, with the friends and family who knew Floyd best, and those who were with him when he died, to explore Floyd’s America.

The program will include a question-and-answer session with Samuels. He will be joined by George A. Jones, CEO of Bread for the City, a Washington-based charitable organization that helps low-income residents with food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty, as well as Chief Medical Officer, Randi Abramson. Jones and Abramsom will help bring a local focus to the themes in the book.

Tickets cost $5 for members of the National Press Club and $10 for the general public.

Pre-ordered books will be available for pickup and signing at the event. Attendees will also be able to purchase books at the door.

To submit a question in advance for the speaker, put GEORGEFLOYD in the subject line and email to [email protected].
