NPC Book Event

Livestream will begin 2/11 at 7:00pm ET.

The Washington Post’s Jason Rezaian, recipient of the National Press Club’s 2015 John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award, will share his highly-anticipated memoir "Prisoner: My 544 Days in an Iranian Prison—Solitary Confinement, a Sham Trial, High-Stakes Diplomacy, and the Extraordinary Efforts It Took to Get Me Out," at a National Press Club Headliners book event on Monday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Club’s Ballroom.

Rezaian was serving as Tehran bureau chief for the Washington Post in July 2014 when he was arrested by Iranian police, accused of spying for America. Convicted (but never sentenced) of espionage in a closed-door trial in Iran in 2015, Rezaian’s memoir details the harrowing conditions he faced during his 544 days in Iranian prison, and the dramatic diplomatic feats made just beyond Tehran’s prison walls that would lead to his eventual release.

The National Press Club and its Journalism Institute served as one of many leading advocates for Rezaian’s release from prison and hosted numerous press conferences and special events to keep a spotlight on his situation throughout his 18-month imprisonment. The Club welcomed Rezaian and his wife Yeganeh home in March of 2016 shortly after his release from Iranian captivity.

This event will feature a moderated discussion with the author, an audience question-and-answer session, and a book signing. The price of admission includes a copy of the book and is $35 for members of the National Press Club and $40 for general admission. Additional copies of the book may be purchased online during checkout or at the event.

Proceeds from book sales will benefit the non-profit affiliate of the Club, the National Press Club Journalism Institute, so we kindly ask that you leave all outside books and memorabilia at home.
