According to an old saying, everybody has a book inside them. If you are an aspiring author, you will need to decide how to reach your audience with your book. For some, that means working with a publisher, for others it is going on your own.

Ed Barks and Edward Segal are NPC members who have each recently published books about communications and public relations. They will provide perspectives on which publishing method is best for you during a Lunch and Learn session on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m. The NPC Communicators Team is hosting the virtual event via Zoom and registration is free for NPC members.

Both authors agree that determining whether to publish your book independently or by a publisher depends on your professional or business intentions and timeline.

During the session, they will discuss how to decide which approach to take based on their experiences. They will also review the impact of technology and the Internet during the past several years since they published their first books.

A link to the Zoom call will be sent to the meeting’s participants the day before the event.

Speakers

  • Ed Barks is the author of “Reporters Don’t Hate You: 100+ Amazing Media Relations Strategies,” a reliable, convenient go-to guide for working with the media, which he published independently. It is the third book the veteran communications consultant has written.
  • Edward Segal recently released his third book, “Crisis Ahead: 101 Ways to Prepare for and Bounce Back from Disasters, Scandals, and Other Emergencies," a handbook on how to prepare for, manage, and recover from even the toughest and most devastating crises. It was published by Nicholas Brealey, which is part of the Hachette Book Group, one of the world’s largest publishers of trade and educational books.
