As Washington prepares for the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh, club members can learn how to prepare for their company’s congressional testimony or other public presentations from one of the field’s top experts.

Ed Barks will lead a discussion with club members on strategies for preparation and presentation at a professional development session sponsored by the Club Communicator Team. It will be held on Thursday, August 9, from 8-9 a.m. in the Cosgrove Lounge at the Club. The program is free to members, but registration is required.

Barks is president of Barks Communications. He works with communications and government relations executives who counsel their C-suite leaders, and with businesses and associations that need their communications strategy to deliver bottom line results. He has taught more than 5000 business leaders, association executives, communications staff, and other leaders how to work with the media, deliver great presentations, and present winning legislative and regulatory testimony.

He recently appeared on the CBS Evening News, offering insights into Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Capitol Hill testimony.

He is the author of the book The Truth About Public Speaking: The Three Keys to Great Presentations and the training guide Face the Press with Confidence: The Media Interview Companion. His forthcoming book, scheduled for publication later this year, will focus on communications strategy for the C-suite.

Barks also serves on the club’s board of governors.

The National Press Club Communicator Team hosts monthly professional development continental breakfasts sessions for journalists and communicators that are free to Club members. A member may bring a guest who pays a $10 fee at the time registration. The fee will be refundable if the guest becomes a Club member.
