Lawmakers gather in D.C. to protect federal climate laws and policies that progress a clean energy future for the safety, prosperity and security of all Americans
Elected officials who are veterans attending the Elected Officials to Protect America Energy Security Summit will bring home the fact that investments in clean energy, sustainable infrastructure and climate resiliency are key to our energy security, and the world’s. They will demand the restoration of all environmental regulations and the continuation of the climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).
They will also disprove the administration’s assertion that fossil fuels are better for energy security. Dirty fossil fuel-based energy fuels the climate crisis and thereby creates more threats to global security. The military knows the climate crisis is a threat multiplier.
The IRA and BIL have already strengthened our nation’s energy security, reduced our carbon footprint, created jobs, and lifted up disadvantaged communities while combating the climate crisis. These Congressionally passed laws represent the federal government’s biggest climate investments in history and have created 900 new factories across America, representing 400,000 jobs. They are a monumental investment in people, security, prosperity, and health.
Some of the speakers will address how their states have benefited from these laws and how they are continuing to invest in their own climate programs despite Trump’s executive order blocking state climate policies.
By the end of 2024, 60 GW of new clean energy was developed in the USA because of these investments.
After the press conference they will visit lawmakers on Capitol Hill to convey the economic and national security implications of keeping the critical climate investments in the IRA and BIL and restoring environmental protections.
