Special Event
Join the Member Author Team on Thursday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m. to hear from National Press Club member authors Edward Segal, Dan Raviv, and Rick Pullen about their experiences with various publishing routes.
Authors get published in a variety of ways these days, but they generally fall into three categories: being published by a major publishing house (including its subsidiaries), by a boutique publisher, or through independent (self) publishing. Each path has its pros and cons. Drawing on their experiences with both traditional and independent publishing, the featured member authors will discuss what has worked, what hasn’t, and how the publishing landscape continues to evolve.
A self-funded dinner from The Reliable Source begins at 5:30 p.m., with the program starting at 6 p.m. for both in-person and virtual participants. After each author shares a brief history of their publishing journey, they will engage in a dynamic conversation before opening the floor to a question-and-answer session with participants.

She leads a number of writing workshops throughout Northern Virginia and Washington for aspiring authors.
She is a debut author; her historical fiction, GHOST TRAIN, looks deeply at the effects of Westernization in Japan, ,and on women specifically, at the end of the 19th century, and is available anywhere books are sold.
Dan Raviv ("rah-VEEV'") was a CBS News correspondent for 40 years, covering stories all around the world. He was based in New York, Tel Aviv, London, Miami, and finally Washington.
Dan is the author or co-author of a wide range of books. "Every Spy A Prince" - a history of the Mossad and other Israeli intelligence agencies - was published back in 1990 and became a national best seller. His most current book (published through an indie publisher) on that subject is called "Spies Against Armageddon: Inside Israel's Secret Wars." He also wrote a book, for a division of Random House, called "Comic Wars" - the inside story of how Marvel Comics went bankrupt, but came back as a movie powerhouse.
Dan's most recent book is about a basic human need. "The Quest for Significance" - published April 2023 - was written with a senior professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Maryland and was published by an academic publisher who intends to put out books that will appeal to general non-fiction readers.
