Hear about NPCJI's new visual storytelling award, Nov. 11
National Press Club Journalism Institute has a new annual award for visual storytelling, and the Photography Team will hear about that award at its next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 12:00 noon in the Cosgrove Lounge.
The Pamela Tobey Award for Excellence in Visual Storytelling, according to the announcement, recognizes "work that pushes the boundaries of storytelling beyond text, rewarding creative uses of data visualization, interactivity, photography, videography, audio, illustration, and other emerging tools. The winning journalist will receive a $1,000 cash prize and will also contribute to the Institute’s training programs by sharing insights with peers in the field."
Pamela Tobey and her husband Rick Dunham are joining the Photo Team on Tuesday, Nov. 11 to tell more about the award. While the award's entry period for this year is already closed, Photo Team participants and other National Press Club members can begin planning their projects for next year with an eye on the contest.
Tobey is a noted graphics editor, formerly with the Washington Post. Dunham is co-director of the Global Business Journalism program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He's a former Washington bureau chief for Hearst newspapers and the Houston Chronicle, as well as NPC president in 2005.
The Photo Team's meeting on Nov. 11 begins at 12:00 noon with a self-funded lunch from the Reliable Source, and the program begins promptly at 12:45 pm. Remote participants are invited to connect via Zoom at 12:45 pm. Registration is required for both in-person and remote participants.
To reserve your spot, please submit your reservation via our online "Book a Reservation" form (please notate "attending Photography Team Meeting" in the Special Requests/Notes field).
