Additional Background:

Communities across the United States and around the world are beginning to experience the devastating effects of climate change, and experts agree that in order to mitigate its effects, we must limit greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a “100 percent clean economy” by 2050.

Though the goal is ambitious, the United States has the tools to reach net-zero climate pollution by 2050, and, as the second largest emitter in the world, behind only China, the U.S. has a responsibility to lead this effort. This panel will explore how to achieve the transition to a 100 percent clean economy, the public health benefits associated with this effort, and unpack the bold local action happening in cities, towns, and businesses across the country and the role of federal and local lawmakers and industry leaders in driving this effort.
