The former Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir is now a union territory. Ladakh is too. Pakistan has threatened nuclear war. Some headlines warn of a clamp down on civil rights and communications. Others speak to a slow return to normalcy.
Hear from award-winning, veteran journalist Aarti Tikoo, Assistant Senior Editor for the Times of India (New Delhi). Tikoo has reported on and from the region for nearly two decades, most recently from inside the Kashmir Valley since August 5th, when the Indian government repealed the discriminatory Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution. Members of the press are invited to hear her eye-witness account, learn how we got here, and what it all means for the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Ms. Tikoo is a Senior Assistant Editor with the Times of India and has over 18 years of experience in conflict-reporting and analysis. She has broken some of the biggest news stories and exclusive interviews on Kashmir and Pakistan. In addition to her reporting credentials, Tikoo has a strong background on foreign and security policy combined with on-the-ground knowledge. She has also studied the impact of militant violence on education.
Previously Tikoo worked with other major national publications in India and has written opinion pieces in various national and international publications. In addition to two Masters degrees in Political Science and English from the University of Jammu, Tikoo is an alumnus of Columbia University where she earned a Masters in International Affairs. While in New York, she worked briefly at Columbia University, the United Nations and the BBC.
