The National Press Club's Legends of Broadcasting series continues with a dinner conversation with veteran Washington, D.C.-based broadcaster Donnie Simpson on Tuesday, December 4.

This special event, organized by the club's Broadcasting & Podcasting Team, will take place in the Winner's Room in the club's Fourth Estate Restaurant, and will be strictly limited to 30 people. A cash bar reception will begin at 6 p.m. with introductions and dinner following at 6:45. Our guest of honor will make remarks and then open the floor to an informal Q&A session to end by 8:30.

Cost of the three-course dinner is $55 for National Press Club members and members of the public. When registering, attendees will select one of three entrée choices:


  • Grilled veal porterhouse in a red wine sauce with chive potatoes and tarragon green beans;

  • North Atlantic cod with lemon couscous and a Moroccan ratatouille with dates;

  • Vegetarian mushroom strudel and sautéed fall greens with a crisped butternut squash garnish.

About our honoree:
Donnie Simpson came to Washington from Detroit in 1974 as morning show host and program director at WKYS-FM. In the early '80s he was backup sports anchor at WRC-TV and later joined Black Entertainment Television as host of "Video Soul." After a 5 1/2 year hiatus he returned to radio as afternoon drive host on MAJIC 102.3 in 2015, the same year he was inducted in the R&B Music Hall of Fame. During his career he has been named by Billboard magazine as No. 1 program director of the year in and air personality of the year.
