Dinner

Washington natives and national broadcast legends Connie Chung and Maury Povich will be guests of the National Press Club's Broadcast and Podcast Team for an intimate dinner and discussion on Wednesday, April 17.

The couple met in the newsroom at WTTG Channel 5 in Washington. Povich was sports anchor and Chung a news writer, street reporter and anchor. They again worked together -- this time as anchors -- at KNXT in Los Angeles

Their careers took them to New York where from 1993 to 1995 she was co-anchor of the CBS Evening News, the fist woman to hold the post and he hosted a string of popular talk shows including "A Current Affair" and the long-running "The Maury Show," now known as simply "Maury."

Povich, once a batboy for the Washington Senators, recently bought a share of the Friendship Heights restaurant Chatters.

This special event will take place in the Winner's Room in the Club's Fourth Estate Restaurant, and will be strictly limited to 30 people. A cash bar reception will begin at 6 p.m. with introductions and dinner following at 6:45. Our guest of honor will make remarks and then open the floor to an informal Q&A session to end by 8:30.

Cost of the three-course dinner is $55 for National Press Club members. When registering, attendees will select one of three entrée choices:

  • Orange and ginger glazed crisp duck breast with mashed sweet potatoes and balsamic pomegranate green beans;
  • Crusted Maryland rockfish with lemon butter, crisp polenta and charred asparagus;
  • Butternut squash lasagna with cranberries, spinach, hazelnuts and béchamel on wilted spring greens.
