"La Frontera" with Pati Jinich

On May 9th, 2022 at 6:30pm Club members are in for a real treat. Pati Jinich, the James Beard Award-winning creator of “Pati’s Mexican Table” on PBS will visit the Club to talk about her new project “La Frontera” which looks at the culture and cuisine of the U.S.-Mexican border region from both sides.

“This project allowed me to get back to my roots,” said Jinich, who trained in International Relations at Georgetown University. “While food and teaching others to make food will always be my passion, I also find what is happening on the border between Mexico and the U.S. to be so compelling and often disturbing and generally misunderstood. I wanted to take a look at the border region in a way that focuses on the shared culture and history on both sides so that we see it as part of a region if it is in Mexico or Texas. This has been something I have been thinking about a long time and I was grateful that PBS would let me use all my tools to put together this project.”

La Frontera launched in late 2021 and the first season was a huge success. Pati followed cattle as they crossed the border from Mexico into the U.S.; she had lunch with truckers under an overpass; she found a female-only Mariachi band and some of the best BBQ ever. Now Pati is here to tell us about season 2 and to show clips and share her vision for this significant project. She will also be interviewed by Club President Jen Judson. Of course, if it is about Pati it is going to be about food, so the program will open with a cocktail and be followed with a reception that will focus on foods from La Frontera.
