NPC Book Event

Celebrating both National Bike Month and National Melanoma Awareness Month, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Elizabeth McGowan will discuss her memoir “Outpedaling the Big C: My Healing Cycle Across America” at a National Press Club Virtual Headliners Book Event on Wednesday, May 19 at 2 p.m.

This one-hour program will stream live on the Club's website and YouTube Channel, and is accessible to both the media and members of the general public free-of-charge. Viewers can submit their questions for McGowan in advance or during the live program via email to [email protected].

Outpedaling the Big C chronicles McGowan’s 90-day solo bike ride from Oregon to Virginia and highlights cancer survivors who work to promote research. The memoir also explores her relationship with her father who died at age 44 from melanoma when McGowan was 15.

McGowan is a freelance journalist covering environmental and energy issues. While writing for InsideClimate News, she won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting with David Hasemyer and Lisa Song for their series on the Kalamazoo River oil spill.
