The 100-year-old French 75 cocktail is equal parts loved and polarizing with favorite concoctions spanning the globe from Paris to New Orleans. The story behind the drink is equally mixed, with its roots in propaganda from World War I and competing versions of the mighty cocktail’s ongoing global evolution.
Author, journalist and scholar John Maxwell Hamilton bravely stepped into the fray to tell the definitive story of the explosive cocktail in his delightful new book, "The French 75" from LSU Press.
Join Hamilton for a lively, four-course Creole dinner accompanied by five different versions of the French 75. Hamilton will tell the story behind the drink and how he went about unraveling its contested history. The discussion and welcome cocktail begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Holeman Lounge, followed by dinner (and more cocktails) in the First Amendment Lounge. Books will be available for $20. Price for the dinner is $85 for members and $100 for non-members.
