News Conference

Taiwan successfully completed its presidential and legislative elections at the beginning of the year. However, China continued its attempts to influence the elections through military intimidation, economic coercion, and disinformation operations. Fortunately, Taiwan’s resilience was exemplified in resisting China’s information manipulation by the world’s most mature communities of fact checkers, government investments, high public media literacy, and robust public-private partnerships.

Taiwan’s experience is of special importance this year, when there are about 60 countries around the world holding general elections, including the United States this November. At this critical moment, TECRO has invited experts from Taiwanese NGOs to discuss Taiwan's experience and hopes to provide a reference for the United States and other democratic countries to deal with possible information manipulation from authoritarian countries.

At a moment when we are celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, Taiwan especially hopes to strengthen cooperation with friends from all walks of life in the United States to prevent and counter disinformation and deepen the robust and vigorous Taiwan-U.S. relationship.
