Six Leading National Water Associations to Unveil Policy Recommendations for Permanent Federal Low-income Water Assistance Program, Supported by Two-Year Study on Water Affordability Challenge

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Media Advisory) – CEOs from the nation’s leading water associations - American Water Works Association (AWWA), Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA), National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), National Association of Water Companies (NAWC), US Water Alliance (USWA), and Water Environment Federation (WEF) - will host a live news conference on Monday, April 24, at 9:30 a.m. ET to issue Recommendations to Congress and the Administration on establishing a permanent federal low-income water assistance program to help the estimated 20 million water-burdened households across the country.  

 

A new report, “Low-Income Water Customer Assistance Program (LIWCAP) Assessment Study,” will be released by the groups estimating the current number of water-burdened U.S. households could be as high as 21.3 million, will show the growing economic and challenges associated with rising water bills in disadvantaged communities and examine a variety of methods to structure the permanent low-income assistance program.
