Join the NPC Events Team for a screening of FRONTLINE's Elon Musk’s Twitter Takeover followed by a discussion.

FRONTLINE traces Elon Musk’s long and often troubled relationship with Twitter. James Jacoby and Anya Bourg follow Musk’s journey from being one of the platform’s most provocative users to becoming its sole proprietor, exploring the acquisition, free speech issues and the company’s uncertain future.

From the award-winning team behind Amazon Empire: The Rise and Reign of Jeff Bezos and The Facebook DilemmaElon Musk’s Twitter Takeover traces two parallel stories – Musk’s political transformation during the COVID pandemic and Twitter’s struggle to deal with misinformation – the documentary pulls back the curtain on the influential social media platform’s inner workings both before and after Musk’s takeover.

James Jacoby is a director, producer, and correspondent for FRONTLINE. His films have investigated a range of topics from police reform in urban America to the lives of former prisoners at Guantanamo to the rollback of environmental protections to the tech giants.

James won an Emmy for Amazon Empire. He won a duPont and a Peabody award for The Facebook Dilemma.

James was a senior producer of FRONTLINE’s Peabody Award-winning series The Power of Big Oil, as well as for Taliban Takeover.

Before joining FRONTLINE, James worked for the CBS News program, 60 Minutes, where he produced investigative stories with correspondent Steve Kroft. His investigations revealed wrongdoing by, among others, major banks, credit reporting agencies, disability lawyers and arson investigators. In addition to his investigative pieces at 60 Minutes, James gave viewers a rare look inside Iran as the prospect of a nuclear deal loomed on the horizon.

Prior to joining 60 Minutes, James was a producer for CNBC, the business news network, where he produced several documentaries including House of Cards, which has been lauded as one of the most comprehensive examinations of the global financial crisis. James has also worked for Dan Rather Reports and Current TV reporting on a range of topics from youth politics in Pakistan to the European debt crisis to the rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

James is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in New York City.

Anya Bourg is a producer and journalist who has been making films for FRONTLINE since 2014. Her most recent was Amazon Empire, a two-hour film that investigated how Jeff Bezos transformed Amazon from an online bookseller into a business empire that is unprecedented in its size and reach. Prior to that, she produced The Facebook Dilemma, a two-hour investigation into how the social media giant departed from its idealistic origins to become an international platform for political disinformation and division; War on the EPA, which traced the rise of Scott Pruitt and the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back years of environmental policy; and Policing the Police, a film that crossed the blue line to examine allegations of police misconduct in Newark N.J. and the challenge of fixing a broken relationship with the community.

Prior to joining the FRONTLINE team, Anya spent almost a decade at 60 Minutes, working on stories that ranged from drug-related violence in Mexico to the destruction of coral reefs to the lack of accountability for prosecutors accused of misconduct. She has won numerous awards including a Peabody, a DuPont, a Sigma Delta Chi and an Edward R. Murrow award for her work in broadcast journalism.

Bourg has also worked in radio, reporting a one-hour documentary for NPR’s This American Life. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
