The Coordinator of the 2012 African Diaspora Summit

Ambassador Mbulelo Rakwena will discuss preparations for next year's African Diaspora Summit in South Africa. Bringing together leaders and representatives of the diaspora, including heads of government and key figures from business, academia, the arts and civil society, with their counterparts from the African continent, the summit will focus on the launch of "bankable projects" and other initiatives in line with the African Union's decision to declare the diaspora Africa's "sixth region". The summit comes at a time of heightened interest in the ways in which the diasporas generally can contribute to the prosperity of their countries or regions of origin.
