Former President and Prime Minister of Mongolia, Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, will speak at the National Press Club on July 25 at 2:00 pm.
As a distinguished champion of press freedom, Mr. Elbegdorj will speak on the vital importance of journalism and freedom of expression in maintaining democratic societies. He will also delve into the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, North Korea's threats to regional stability, and the grave human rights situation in North Korea, all of which are crucial issues in today's global landscape.
In addition to his political achievements, which include being a key leader of the 1990 Mongolian democratic revolution that ended 70 years of communist rule in Mongolia and co-drafting the country's 1992 constitution that guaranteed democracy and a free market economy, Mr. Elbegdorj founded the Ardchilal (Democracy) Newspaper in Mongolia, reflecting his deep-rooted dedication to democratic values and free speech. He is also a respected member of the prestigious Club de Madrid and The Elders, contributing to global dialogue on leadership and human rights.
Mr. Elbegdorj will share his extensive experience dealing with global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he has met more than thirty times during his leadership in Mongolia. His insights into these high-level interactions will provide a unique perspective on international diplomacy and geopolitical strategy.
