Denise Rolark Barnes, publisher of The Washington Informer Newspaper Co., Inc, will join NPC President Michael Freedman to discuss the venerated publication, digital news services and the critical role of ethnic/racial community news outlets across the United States on Thursday, September 17 at 6 p.m.

Rolark Barnes manages the daily operations of the award-winning Informer and its website, along with the weekly email newsletter and award-winning television show.

Beyond the Washington, DC region, they serve the nation with more than 40,000 weekly newsreaders and average more than 20,500 unique website visitors.  Additionally, there are 8000 e-blast subscribers with a social media reach of more than 11 million.

The Washington Informer was established by her father Dr. Calvin W. Rolark on October 16, 1964, with a mission to “educate, inspire and inform - and to publish positive news about African Americans."

This 1-hour program will stream live at www.press.org and on the NPC's YouTube Channel, and is free and accessible to both the media and members of the general public. Viewers are invited to submit their questions in advance or during the livestream by emailing their queries to [email protected].

The event was organized by the National Press Club’s Events Committee.
