Gloria Browne-Marshall plans to present her latest book, The African American Woman, 400 Years of Perseverance at a National Press Club Book Rap on Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cosgrove  Lounge.

The event is free for Club members and their guests but purchasing food and drink at the Club's Reliable Source Bar & Grill is encouraged.

The book contains a series of essays depicting treatment and experiences of African-American women over the years.

Browne-Marshal obtained her law degree from St. Louis University. She is a writer, legal correspondent and professor of constitutional law at John Jay College. She has been a visiting lecturer at Vassar College and a civil-rights attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Philadelphia. Her other books include The Voting Rights War: The NAACP and the Ongoing Struggle for JusticeRace, Law and American Society, and two books about the Constitution. She is an accomplished playwright and is working on a new book entitled CLASS about rising nationalism.

She has received a number of awards including the NAACP Lawrence Trailblazer Award, The Association of Black Women Attorney’s Community Service award, the New York County Lawyer’s Ida B. Wells Award among others. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the National Association of Black Journalist, the Mystery Writers of America, the Society of Professional Journalists, BIO, Pen America Center and the National Press Club.

This Book Rap includes a discussion about the book by the author, a question-and-answer session, and a book signing. Books are expected to be available for sale at the event.
