Secretary Chertoff announced the government's decision on regulations about the Real ID program and how states should comply with the Real ID Act, a federally mandated national ID program. He responded to questions from members of the audience. The REAL ID act passed by Congress in 2005 set the first national standards for drivers' licenses and imposed new documentation requirements.
