Young Members to host Washington premiere screening of "The Mask You Live In," 6:30 pm March 6

The Washington premiere of the new documentary “The Mask You Live In,” followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, in the National Press Club Holeman Lounge.

The event is sponsored by the Young Members Committee and is open to the public. Tickets for Club members are $5 and $10 for non-members. Purchase tickets online.

“The Mask You Live In” examines the harm that is caused to boys and men by American culture and the media’s narrow definition of masculinity and what it means to “Be a Man.” Watch the film’s trailer.

The documentary premiered earlier this winter at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The film is directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who helmed the provocative 2011 documentary “Miss Representation,” which focused on the societal harm caused by sexualized and infantilized images of women in the media.

Directly following the screening there will be a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A. Confirmed panelists include:

  • Jennifer Siebel Newsom, founder of The Representation Project and director of “The Mask You Live In” and “Miss Representation”

  • Alyssa Rosenberg, Act Four columnist for the Washington Post

  • Isaac Fitzgerald, editor at BuzzFeed Books

  • Jamelle Bouie, politics, policy and race staff writer for Slate
