Srodes to discuss biography of Roosevelts, others who shaped 20th Century, 6:30 pm Aug. 16

James Srodes, a National Press Club Silver Owl who launched his career working for news organizations in the National Press Building, will discuss his latest biography, “On Dupont Circle: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and the Progressives Who Shaped Our World” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in the conference rooms.

A book signing will follow the discussion.

This event is a fundraiser for the National Press Club Journalism Institute. No outside books will be permitted.

Srodes’ new project is a multiple-biography of 12 young men and women who came together on the eve of World War I to apply their brilliance to personal and social advancement of a more perfect world. In addition to the Roosevelts, the gang included Felix Frankfurter, Walter Lippmann, John Foster Dulles, Allen Dulles and Herbert Hoover.

Srodes’ previous biographies have included “Dream Maker: The Rise and Fall of John Z. DeLorean,” “Allen Dulles: Master of Spies,” and “Franklin: The Essential Founding Father.”

In a lengthy career as a financial journalist, Srodes has covered the White House and Washington economics beat for the bureaus of United Press International, Forbes and Financial World magazines. He is one of the founders and a past president of Washington Independent Writers and is a member of the Authors Guild.
