Rep. James Clyburn to respond to the midterm elections at Nov. 20 Newsmaker

House Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn of South Carolina will discuss governing and the issues in the post-midterm environment at a Newsmaker event beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Zenger Room.

As the No. 3 House Democrat, Clyburn serves as the leadership liaison to the Appropriations Committee and as one of the caucus's liaisons to the White House.

Clyburn is the highest-ranking black lawmaker on Capitol Hill. When he came to Congress in 1993, he was elected co-president of his freshman class and rose through the leadership ranks. Aformer chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Clyburn was elected vice chair of the House Democratic caucus in 2002. He later rose to be caucus chair, and then became majority whip when the party regained control of the House in 2007.
