P.J. O’Rourke to discuss new work at Book Rap Tuesday, Nov. 10

Humorist P. J. O'Rourke plans to discuss his new book, "Thrown Under the Omnibus," at a National Press Club Book Rap at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Tickets -- $5 for Club members, $10 for the public -- can be purchased online.

Books can also be purchased along with tickets or at the event. This is a fundraiser for the nonprofit NPC Journalism Institute, so no outside books or memorabilia are permitted.

Well known for his work with National Lampoon and Rolling Stone, O’Rourke is considered to be one the great humorists of his generation. In the Dictionary of Modern Humorist Quotations, he has more entries than any living writer.

"Thrown Under the Omnibus" is a compilation of what O’Rourke considers his best pieces.

He plans to talk about the book, answer questions from the audience and sign copies of the book. Among his recent articles are “Bye Bye McKinley” for the Weekly Standard and “How I Killed ‘National Lampoon’” for the Hollywood Reporter. These essays may be included in a future compilation.

Weighing in at hefty 640 pages, "Thrown Under the Omnibus," includes memorable O'Rourke bon mots, such as “giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys” and “everybody knows how to raise children, except the people who have them.”
