Newsmaker on Tomorrow's Internet, 2 p.m. Wednesday

ICANN President and Chief Executive Officer Rod Beckstrom and Board Chair Stephen Crocker will discuss taking the Internet beyond .com, .org and .edu with the launch of hundreds of new generic top-level Internet domains (gTLDs) such as .hotel, and .paris. at a Newsmaker press conference at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

ICANN will begin accepting applications Jan. 12 for the new domain names.

This is the biggest expansion in Internet addressing since the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) was created in 1998. These changes are not without controversy, the new program has been the subject of recent Congressional hearings and intense debate by businesses, associations and governments around the world.

National Press Club members outside Washington and out-of-town journalists may watch the news conference via a live webcast at ICANN

Journalists may also listen to the news conference and-or ask questions via telephone by dialing an access number obtained from this list. The toll-free access number in the United States is +1.800.550.6865. After reaching the conferencing center, dial 25594.
