National Press Club’s Book Fair & Authors’ Night names Jim Lehrer honorary chairman

The National Press Club’s Book Fair & Authors’ Night has chosen Jim Lehrer of the Public Broadcasting System as honorary chairman.

The NPC Book Fair is scheduled for Nov. 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the Club.

Nearly 100 authors are expected to participate in the Club's premier literary event of the holiday season.

"Whether you are looking for a political memoir, cookbook, biography, children's work or a coffee table volume, you will find it's a great place to start your holiday shopping and have the opportunity to win exciting raffle prizes," said Barbara Bird, Book Fair chair.

For the third year, the Book Fair is partnering with the SEED Foundation, which helps underserved students prepare for college. The young scholars attend one of two public boarding schools in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Students from the school will be on-hand at the SEED school exhibit table to meet accomplished authors, and autograph copies of their own work for patrons who purchase a book to help develop the library at the Maryland school.

The Book Fair is a fundraiser for The National Press Club Journalism Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides training to working journalists in a changing media environment and promotes diversity throughout the industry with a competitive scholarship program.
