Malaysian Opposition Leader on Islam, Democracy, 6pm Feb. 11

Against the backdrop of the continuing crisis in Egypt, Anwar Ibrahim, the former deputy prime minister of Malaysia who is now leader of the opposition in Parliament, will give his perspective on the recent developments in Tunisia and Egypt and how they relate to the future of democracy in the Islamic world at 6pm Friday, Feb. 11, in the McClendon Room.

Anwar, a former visiting professor at Georgetown University, also will discuss his views on the political outlook in Malaysia during a meeting of the International Correspondents Committee that is open to all National Press Club members and guests. After his remarks, there will be a Q&A session.

Following Anwar’s appearance, the committee will have is annual brainstorming business meeting to discuss plans for the coming year.

All Club members interested in joining the committee are welcomed to bring ideas for events to further enhance the Club’s international activities.
