Learn how to use Excel to strengthen your reporting skills. 9:30 am July 25

Learn how to manage online data with Excel at a National Press Club professional development event at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the Bloomberg Room.

The class is free for Club members and $15 for non-members. RSVP to [email protected]

Reporters can find all kinds of interesting data online these days, but you need tools to comb through it. Excel is a common and valuable tool that can help do just that.

Unfortunately, for many of us, its behavior can seem frustrating and odd rather than empowering and delightful. Take some time to get to know Excel and make it your friend.

In this 90-minute session, we’ll cover a few tricks that will put you in charge of your data, including importing, formatting and sorting. We’ll also cover how to use formulas to edit data.

This class will assume a basic level of familiarity with Excel (e.g., an understanding of terms such as "row," "column" and "cell"), but even long-time users may learn some new things. We'll do a few hands-on exercises. Feel free to bring examples.
