Jan. 8 Panel on Covering Sexual Assault

Perhaps no task is as daunting for reporters than interviewing a victim of sexual assault. A National Press Club Journalism Institute panel will address how best to avoid pitfalls that could compromise a good story or unnecessarily harm a victim.

The panel discussion will be held in the Zenger Room on Friday, January 8th from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Tickets are required and can be purchased here. The price for NPC members including service charge is $6.24; non-members pay $11.29.

Panelists will be journalist Kristen Lombardi, Center for Public Integrity, the author of an investigation award-winning investigation of sexual assaults on campus; Bruce Shapiro, executive director of the Dart Center at Columbia University School of Journalism School, which offers guidance and training to journalists covering trauma; and Jennifer Marsh, Vice President for Victim Services at RAINN -- the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network -- the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization, overseeing the National Sexual Assault Hotlines and coordinating services and communication with 1,000 affiliate sexual assault service providers nationwide.
