Girl Scouts CEO Anna Maria Chávez plans to speak at Press Club Luncheon, June 13

Girl Scouts CEO Anna Maria Chávez plans to discuss the changes she is bringing to the organization at a National Press Club Luncheon on Monday, June 13 at 12:30 p.m.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $24 for Press Club members (NPC Members may purchase two tickets at this rate) and $38 for all other non-member tickets.

Tickets may be purchased online.

Chávez is visiting the Nation’s Capital to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the highest honor in Girl Scouts, the Gold Award. Since taking the helm of the Girl Scouts, Chavez has formed partnerships with leaders such as Sheryl Sandberg, launching the “Ban Bossy” campaign; engaged First Lady Michele Obama to record a recruitment video and host a White House sleepover for girls; and Chris Rock to sell Girl Scouts cookies at the Oscars, netting $65,000 in sales of Thin Mints and Tag-a-Longs. She’s also instituted new badges for financial literacy and STEM learning. FORTUNE magazine just named her one of the top 50 leaders in the world.

While many Americans recognize the Eagle Scout as the highest honor in Boy Scouts, far fewer are aware of the work that goes into a Girl Scout earning the Gold Award. Girls often devote up to two years designing and managing a sustainable community service project, learning critical leadership skills and the tenacity to be successful in life.

NPC Members who wish to attend the pre-luncheon reception must RSVP separately to [email protected] 48 hours before the event. Space may be limited. You must have a paid reservation to the luncheon to attend the VIP reception. To submit a question in advance, put GIRLSCOUTS in the subject line and email to [email protected] before 10 a.m. on the day of the luncheon.
