Don't get hacked and protect your sources with hands on encryption training for journalists, March 25

Learn how to report securely using your smart phone at a National Press Club Journalism Institute class March 25 with cyber security expert Aaron Rinehart.

Rinehart and National Press Club board member Danny Al-Faruque will lead this new unique new series featuring hands-on encryption training for journalists, with guest lecturers joining certain sessions.

The first class, Secure Reporting with Smart Phones, will be held Saturday, March 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the club’s Bloomberg Room.

The cost of each class is $30 for NPC members and $45 for the general public. Class fees included a boxed lunch. Registration is required. Please register by clicking here.

Attendees must bring their own smart phones and laptops to each session and will be asked to download encryption programs and apps to practice with during class.

The first class will cover:
· Reporting with smart phones 101: security advantages and disadvantages, how metadata is used and stored;
· Encryption 101;
· Authentication tools, including multi-factor authentication and passphrase management;
· Mobile operating systems's built-in encryption features, anti-virus protections, MDM (mobile device management);
· Secure messaging and VoIP, and
· Best practices/wrap-up.
