Contested Convention: Next in the Campaign Boot Camp series, May 5

Get schooled in the details of what to expect in a contested Republican convention on Thursday, May 5, when the National Press Club Journalism Institute and the National Press Club's Professional Development Committee present the next program in its Campaign Boot Camp series.

The program will run from 9:30 – 11 a.m. in the NPC's Lisagor Room. RSVP using the form linked here. A $10 fee is required, or $5 for Press Club members.

Which delegates are bound, and what are they bound to do? What happens after the first ballot if no one has a majority? What rules apply to influencing delegates? And is there any precedent for this?

The program will feature:

· Ben Ginsberg, who served as national counsel to the Bush-Cheney campaigns in 2000 and 2004, and the Romey for President campaigns in 2008 and 2012. He also is a former newspaperman, having worked for the Boston Globe and Philadelphia Bulletin before entering law school.

· Elaine Kamarck is a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution and author of “Primary Politics: Everything You Need to Know about How America Nominates Its Presidential Candidates."

· Carl Leubsdorf, Washington Columnist for the Dallas Morning News.

Herb Jackson, Washington correspondent of The Record of Bergen County, N.J., and chairman of the Professional Development committee, will moderate.
