Coalition of space organizations to release recommendations, 10 am March 4

A coalition of a dozen space organizations, representing aerospace professionals from industry, academia, and government, will present recommendations and release a joint white paper, “Ensuring U.S. Leadership in Space,” at a National Press Club Newsmaker news conference at 10 a.m., Friday, March 4, in the Zenger Room.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition:

Sandra H. Magnus, executive director of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)

Elliot H. Pulham, chief executive of the Space Foundation

Eric Stallmer, president of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation

For nearly 60 years, U.S. government and private sector investment — and public-private partnerships — have made possible a $330 billion global space industry, established new technologies, revolutionized national security, enabled and extended global communication networks and inspired millions of Americans to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

However, today there are serious challenges to U.S. leadership in space that the next administration and Congress will have to address.

Friday’s discussion will delve into unpredictable budgeting, foreign competition, the hostile space environment and workforce trends. In addition to detailing the challenges, speakers at the March 4 Newsmaker will explore policy recommendations and actions necessary to continue our nation’s leadership in space.
