Christy Turlington Burns - Every Mother CountsChristy Turlington Burns, founder & CEO of the nonprofit Every Mother Counts, will discuss U.S. maternal health challenges, as well as legislation she is encouraging Congress to pass to improve access to maternity care for American women at a special film screening at the National Press Club on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2018 at 5 p.m. in the club’s Ballroom.

The newsmaker event will begin with a screening of two short films from the Every Mother Count’s series, “Giving Birth in America,” that demonstrate the challenges pregnant women and mothers are facing in the United States, such as a shortage of healthcare providers, racial and socioeconomic disparities, and lack of insurance.

Following the screening, NPC President Andrea Edney, will moderate a discussion with Turlington Burns and Nan Strauss, Director of Policy & Advocacy at Every Mother Counts, to discuss why the U.S. maternal mortality rate is so high, how Every Mother Counts is working to prevent maternal deaths and complications, and why Congressional action is needed.

There is no charge for admission to this event, however registration is required.
