Ambassador of Iraq opens Ambassador Dinner Series on Wednesday

On Wednesday, November 20, the National Press Club launches the Ambassador Dinner Q&A Series with the participation of His Excellency Ambassador of Iraq to the United States, Fareed Yasseen.

The International Correspondents team and the Events team invite members of The National Press Club & their guests to join the exclusive dinner and Q&A at the Fourth Estate Restaurant of the National Press Club.

The Ambassador Dinner Series is designed to welcome the highest foreign diplomats in Washington DC to the Club to discuss topics of interest with our thriving media community around a special dinner created by Executive Chef Susan Delbert to pay homage to the culinary traditions of the country.

The menu of the event, dedicated to the Middle Eastern cuisine, features: Salad: Greens, carrots, sweet onion, cucumbers and crispy garbanzo beans; sumac vinaigrette; Entrée: Crispy skin red snapper, confetti saffron couscous, Middle Eastern ratatouille with dates; Dessert: Apple bread pudding with caramel sauce



NPC President Jeff Ballou will host a conversation with Ambassador Yasseen during the event.

The Series involves the production of a Podcast episode in collaboration with the Broadcast team.

Bio: Fareed Yasseen - Ambassador of Iraq to the United States

Fareed Yasseen is Iraq’s ambassador to the United States since November 2016. He also served as Iraq’s Ambassador to France, 2010-2016. Initially trained as a physicist, he carried out research in Europe and the United States before getting involved in political activism and human rights advocacy. He has worked and consulted for various think tanks and UN agencies. Joining Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign affairs in 2004, he served as Head of Policy Planning twice, 2004-2006 and 2009-2010. During the intervening period, 2006-2009, he was seconded to Deputy President Abd Al-Mahdi as diplomatic advisor. He is a member of the American Physical Society and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
