Celebrate the American pastime, help kick off a new season for the National Press Club's mighty softball team and celebrate the long-awaited return of the popcorn machine to the Reliable Source during a special happy hour on Wednesday, April 19, starting at 5:30 pm. Join the NPC Events Team on Monday, May 1 at 6 p.m. in the Fourth Estate for a screening of "Etilaat Roz." This documentary narrates the fall of Afghanistan and the Taliban takeover from inside the office of the Etilaatroz newspaper. It tells the story of the newspaper and its journalists after the fall of Kabul. Actress and social justice advocate Ashley Judd will speak May 9 at a National Press Club Headliners luncheon on the need for responsible and respectful reporting on suicides. Judd's mother, Grammy-winning country music artist Naomi Judd was suffering from mental illness when she died by suicide on April 30, 2022. When Journalists Must Flee: Remote Reporting and Next Steps
Join the National Press Club on World Press Freedom Day at 1 p.m. in the Fourth Estate Room for a panel on remote reporting. Journalists who have been forced to flee their countries will convey their own personal stories of how they got out and got settled in a new location. They will share what circumstances lead them to leave and what the current climate is for journalists in their home country. They will highlight the process they underwent when trying to cover what's happening in their countries.

Diane Rehm will be the guest of honor at the Legends of Broadcast dinner being held Thursday, May 18 at 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Holeman Lounge Rehm is a native Washingtonian who began her radio career in 1973 as a volunteer for WAMU 88.5, the NPR member station in Washington, D.C. She was hired as an assistant producer and later became the host and producer of two health-oriented programs.
