Legendary vocalist Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend of The Who will discuss the UCLA Daltrey/Townshend Teen & Young Adult Cancer Program, which serves teenagers and young adults with cancer. The program, founded a year ago by Daltrey and fellow rock icon Pete Townshend, is based at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Now the pair is moving forward with plans for Teen Cancer America, a program to set up units in hospitals and medical centers in strategic areas around the country. South African Night: The Life, Legacy and Values of Nelson Mandela
“South African Night: The Life, Legacy and Values of Nelson Mandela.” The event will include remarks by South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool; Edward Perkins, the first black U.S. ambassador to be sent to South Africa from 1986 to 1989; a panel discussion on Mandela’s “Life, Legacy and Values,” followed by a Q&A session, and a tasting of South African wines and cuisine. The panel includes Charlene Smith, the author of the biography, “Mandela: In Celebration of a Great Life,” and a newly published book, “Mandela and America.”

2012 Fourth Estate Award Dinner Honoring Bob Woodward
Bob Woodward, the Washington Post investigative reporter and editor whose work on the Watergate scandal led to the resignation of an American president, has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Fourth Estate Award, the National Press Club’s most-honored prize. Woodward will receive the award at a gala dinner Friday, Sept. 21. He is the 40th recipient of the Fourth Estate Award, which recognizes a journalist who has made significant contributions to the field through a lifetime of excellence. Click here to order tickets.
